XA Student Ministry Update, 2-23-2011

Hey Guys!

Hope this week finds you doing well!

  • The most urgent news right now is to make sure we are all on the same page regarding The Silver Ring Thing on Saturday March 5 at Scotts Hill Baptist. This is a National Dating and Purity Event Tour that looks like it will be not only be very impactful, but also very entertaining! You can learn more about the event here:http://www.silverringthing.com/registrationdisplay.asp?regID=432 ! I have also attached a flyer with information specific to our group going. Here is the what you need to know…. We will meet here at CABC at 5:30 pm to travel over there. If you want, you can meet us at Scotts Hill at 5:45, but be sure to let me know if you plan to do so. We will return around 9:30.  Tickets are $5.00. I have gone ahead and purchased 20 tickets (a conservative number based on our initial sign up on Sunday… I will purchase more if we surpass it). If you know you are going, please bring me five dollars on or before Sunday Feb 27 to claim a reserved ticket. Keep in mind that parents are invited as well and there is a special session for parents in which you learn how to encourage your children to live a life of purity until marriage (parents must purchase a ticket as well).
  • I am attending a meeting tomorrow concerning our other local March Event “Love and Sacrifice”  (March 24-25) so I will give more details next update!
  • Sunday Morning at 9:00 we will continue our study of cults and other religions by exploring Islam!
  • Sunday afternoon we will begin a new series at INSIDEOUT (4:30-7:30) entitled “Grow Up”. I’m really excited about this series as it will break down very simply the ways in which we grow spiritually. Series and first session descriptions are below! Following our program will be snack supper and Prayer Walking! We will divide into small groups with an adult leader and travel to (safe) areas around Wilmington in order to pray for that particular location and the people who frequent it. We will be discussing what it means to put our trust in God on Sunday afternoon, so I wanted to do a little something that would be a “stretch” for many of our students in order to help them put their trust in him!

Have a great week!

Jon

GROW UP:

Series Overview

Do your students ever wish they could just grow up? Maybe they yearn for the day they will get their driver’s licenses. Or graduate from high school. Or go away to college. They don’t really want to be kids anymore. They want to be seen as adults. They want to feel like they’ve moved on, grown up. We all know how that happens physically, but what about spiritually? How do we know we’re growing in your faith? How do we know that you’re moving forward in that area of our lives? The good news is that God is just as passionate about growing our faith as we are. And there are five ways He will use to do that—some involving things that we probably already know, and other ways that we may have never thought about before.

Session One: Big Faith (2/27)

Your faith in God matters to God. In fact, God is most honored through your living, active, death-defying, out-of-the-box faith. That being the case, He’s committed to growing it. Big. Imagine how differently you would respond to difficulties, temptations, and even good things if you knew with certainty that God was in all of it and was planning to leverage it for good. But in order for all of that to happen, there’s one thing it all hinges on—your trust.

Session One Parent Cue: What area of your life are you most reluctant to trust God? Why?
