XA Student Ministry Update, 4-5-2011

Hey Guys!

As you may know, we have been planning  on taking our teenagers to see the new Christian themed Movie, “Soul Surfer” this Sunday April 10. Well, we had such a large response from families interested in going with us that we decided to look into doing something bigger…and now, thanks to the legwork of Buffy Brown, we have been able to reserve an entire theater for the 4:15 showing at Mayfaire and make this an opportunity for the entire church and our guests!

The movie is based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, a competitive surfer who at 13 lost an arm in a shark attack. Her and her family’s faith (which isn’t shied away from in the movie) helped her not only recover, but return to the life of a champion surfer. Here is a website with much more info! http://www.soulsurferwave.com/ The movie is rated PG for “an intense accident sequence and some thematic material”. There should be a much more detailed review at www.pluggedin.com by this weekend to help parents gauge the appropriateness for children. (It should also be noted that in the clips made available on the website that there are several scenes with girls wearing bikinis, although they do not appear to be  gratuitous).

Those interested in going may purchase a ticket at the church for $7.00 beginning Tuesday Afternoon at the church. They will be available at the church office during office hours as well as Wednesday pm and Sunday morning.  We only have 123 tickets and they will be first come first serve. Those who have already given me money simply need to pick up their tickets. I will also hold enough tickets for the students who signed up for a ticket UNTIL Sunday morning at which point they may be sold. The plan is to have the tickets distributed by Sunday Morning and to meet at Mayfaire for the 4:15 show, although they ask that you arrive 30 minutes early. The movie is a an hour and forty six minutes long.
