XA Student Ministry Update, 5-2011

This Sunday morning at 9:00 am we will wrap up our series, “Why are there so many different Churches” by discussing church movements of the 20th Century and breaking down several non-denominational groups and churches .

At INSIDEOUT (4:30-7:30) we will pick up our “Guardrails” Series from two weeks ago and explore the need for standards when it comes to our relationship with the opposite sex. (Leaders this is Small Group Week 3). There has been a change for our Afterglow this week! We had originally planned to go on a Geocaching Adventure (if you don’t know what that is I’ll explain later), but I decided that would work better as a full blown summer “event” as opposed to a time limited Afterglow. So instead we will have pizza at the church, go to Rita’s (bring a little money) and play a some beach volleyball. Let me know if you can send an extra volleyball…I only have one and we may have access to multiple courts.

Registration forms are available and $50.00 deposits are due for Global Youth Camp July 11-15! The longer we wait to get on board, the greater the chance that we will fill our allotted spaces and the less chance that we can add more. This is the can’t miss event of the year! The video on this page does a great job explaining what this week is all about! www.globalyouthministry.org  Scholarship requests form available!

I have been working on our summer calendar and should have it ready by next week. We will be more casual with our schedule, but will still get together most Sunday evenings, although we will push our time back a bit. We will also utilize Wednesdays a bit differently. Here is a preview of what’s to come: At least one (and maybe more) opportunities to lead a Backyard Bible Club, Beach Days, Hammerheads game, pool party, MelonQuest, and more!

We will be recognizing all high school and college graduates on Sunday May 29th  in the 10:15 worship service. Please let me or the church office know  which graduates will be present. Also, keep in mind that the following Sunday evening, June 5 will be our Senior Night for high school graduates who are active in our ministry. We put A LOT of energy into making this a really special night and it is always a great deal of fun. Every  student will want to make sure they are a part of this evening!

One final Note! As many of you are aware, but some may not be, the past year and a half our Student Ministry has been sponsoring 5 year old John Jasper Raymundo from the Philippines for $30.00 a month through Holt International. Each time we meet I remind our students about him and we have a box in which we collect donations. I encourage each student to donate a dollar or two each month, but I’m pretty sure there is a limited number who carry the brunt of the support. Well, due our sporadic meeting schedule and a recent extra birthday gift we gave, we are quickly approaching falling two months behind in our support. I’d love for all parent’s to help me in encourage our students to consider making this sacrifice to help someone else. If we all truly pool our resources  it would be a very small one indeed!

Have a great week!

Jon
