XA Youth Ministry Weekly Update, 12-13-2011
Thanks so much to everyone who donated food for our Christmas Get-Together this past Sunday night! We had a great turnout (48 teenagers by my count), all but a couple were CABC kids, and we were still missing quite a few! As impressive as it was to have so many of us together at one time it was even more impressive that God gave us the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of the residents at Liberty Commons by caroling and in our community with the Living Nativity. What a great night!
This Wednesday 12/14 we have another opportunity to touch lives outside the walls of the church by performing a Living Nativity at Independence Mall! A big thanks and major credit go to Jackie French for organizing this and making it happen! Here are the details, cut and paste from our Chi Alpha Student Ministries Facebook page (that you are invited to join if you aren’t a member already):
Living Nativity at Independence Mall Update! According to Ms. Jackie, all participants should come to the church baptistry by 6:00 Wednesday (5:30 if possible) to get dressed. Angels should wear light colored clothes. We will take the church van, but may not have room for all, so we'd love some parents to come along as well and help us transport people. Our shift begins at 7:30 in front of Penny's for an hour or so. This is a great opportunity to impact our community!
Also this Wednesday 12/14! There is a family connected to our church in which a single uncle has recently become the only caregiver for three young children. My family as felt led to help and minister to them on an ongoing basis by watching and caring for the children. The biggest, most immediate need they have is organizing and “matching up” the children’s clothes (which have mostly been donated) so the uncle can have outfits prepared for school and daycare. Sara has arranged to collect all the clothes and bring them to the church at 4:30 on Wednesday so we can put outfits together and do inventory of what may still be needed. We’d love to have some teenagers come early (4:30) on Wednesday to help in this unique service project! Let me know who is interested and I’ll make sure we have some food available!
This Sunday 12/18 the teenagers have been asked to join with the adults for the 2012 Budget Proposal in the Sanctuary at 9:00 am. If there is time we will meet in the trailer together afterwards. We will not meet on Sunday afternoons until after the New Year.
